Catastrophic Risk
In AI policy, catastrophic risk is the risk of AI contributing to very large-scale harm, such as mass casualties or huge economic damage, even if not existential.
What is Catastrophic Risk?
California's SB 53 defines it by thresholds such as more than 50 deaths or serious injuries or over $1 billion in damage from a single incident involving a frontier model.
