Electric Vehicle (EV)

An electric vehicle is a vehicle propelled wholly or partly by one or more electric motors, powered by a battery, fuel cell or other electricity source.

What is Electric Vehicle (EV)?

The term covers battery electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles, and sometimes hybrids. Electric cars made up around a fifth of global new car sales by 2024 according to the IEA, driven by falling battery costs and policies such as the UK ZEV mandate and EU CO2 standards.

How it works

A battery stores energy, an inverter converts it into the alternating current the motor needs, and the motor drives the wheels; braking can recover energy back into the battery.
