General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)
GPRS is the packet data service added to 2G GSM networks, which gave users the first always-on mobile data.
What is General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)?
GPRS, often called 2.5G, let GSM phones send and receive data in packets, so users were charged for the volume of data rather than connection time. It introduced ideas, such as the GPRS Tunnelling Protocol, that are still used in 4G and 5G cores.
