Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
GNSS is the general name for satellite systems that provide positioning and timing, such as GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou.
What is Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)?
As well as location, GNSS signals carry very accurate time. Mobile networks commonly fit GNSS receivers at cell sites to synchronise base stations, which is essential for time-division systems and broadcast modes. Because GNSS can be jammed or spoofed, operators increasingly add backup timing sources.
