ITIL

ITIL is a widely used framework of best practice for IT service management, helping organisations align IT services with business needs.

What is ITIL?

ITIL began in the 1980s at the UK government's Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency. It was revised as ITIL V2 (2000), V3 (2007, updated 2011) and ITIL 4 (2019). ITIL 4 introduces a service value system, four dimensions of service management and seven guiding principles: focus on value; start where you are; progress iteratively with feedback; collaborate and promote visibility; think and work holistically; keep it simple and practical; and optimise and automate. It informed the ISO/IEC 20000 standard.
