Japan AI Promotion Act
Japan's Act on the Promotion of Research, Development and Utilisation of AI-Related Technologies, passed in May 2025, is a framework law that promotes AI while addressing risks mainly through guidance.
What is Japan AI Promotion Act?
It sets up an AI Strategy Headquarters led by the Prime Minister and allows the government to investigate misuse and publish guidance, without heavy penalties.
How it works
Implementation is through a national AI basic plan and guidelines.
