Next Generation Network (NGN)
A next generation network is a telecoms network that carries all services, including voice, over a common IP-based packet infrastructure.
What is Next Generation Network (NGN)?
NGNs replace separate circuit-switched voice and data networks. They are typically built on MPLS cores and use IMS or softswitches for voice. Regulatory cost models (such as the one this source comes from) model NGN equipment to set wholesale call termination charges.
