Open Category

The open category is the lowest-risk category of drone operations in the UK and EU, allowed without prior authorisation if limits on weight, height, distance from people and visual line of sight are met.

What is Open Category?

Flights must stay below 120 m, in VLOS and away from crowds, with drones under 25 kg. It is divided into A1, A2 and A3 by proximity to people.
