A provider edge router is an operator's router at the edge of its MPLS network that connects to customer edge devices.
What is Provider Edge (PE)?
PE routers keep separate routing tables for each customer VPN and apply MPLS labels to traffic entering the core. MPLS edge routers in NGN models perform this role.
