Remote Concentrator
A remote concentrator is equipment at the edge of a telephone network that terminates customer lines, digitises them and concentrates their traffic onto fewer circuits to the main exchange.
What is Remote Concentrator?
Only a few hundred lines attach to each unit. It provides dial tone and reads dialled digits, and its interface to the parent switch is standardised by ETSI as V5. In the UK, many former local exchanges contain only a remote concentrator.
