Zero Moment Point (ZMP)

The zero moment point is the point on the ground where the net tipping moment from gravity and inertia is zero; keeping it within the foot's support area keeps a walking robot stable.

The concept was introduced by Miomir Vukobratović and underpinned early humanoids such as Honda's ASIMO.
