New Taiwanese Drone Regulations

Starting December 1, 2025, new regulations for drones came into effect in Taiwan. Drone sellers and importers must register new drone models with the Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) and clearly label key details on the drone and its packaging, including brand, model, manufacturer information, maximum takeoff weight, cybersecurity test results, radio certification from the National Communications Commission, and inspection documents.

Failure to register or label properly can result in fines ranging from NT$10,000 to NT$1.5 million. Importers must use a new import code (617) for remote-controlled drones, and drones weighing 2 kilograms or more require CAA approval at customs, while lighter ones need authorization from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection. Individuals who build their own drones must also register them.

These rules stem from amendments to Taiwan's drone laws announced in November 2024.
