Bitstream Access

Bitstream access is a wholesale broadband product in which the incumbent carries the customer's traffic across its own network and hands it over to the retail provider at a regional or national point.

What is bitstream access?

With bitstream, the retail provider does not need its own equipment in local exchanges, which lowers the barrier to entry. The trade-off is less control over service features and quality, because more of the network belongs to the wholesale provider. VULA is a form of bitstream access with the hand-over point pushed close to the local access node.
