Clustering

Clustering is an unsupervised learning task that groups data points so that items in the same group are more similar to each other than to those in other groups.

What is Clustering?

Clustering is used for customer segmentation, organising documents, image compression and spotting anomalies. Popular algorithms include k-means, hierarchical clustering and DBSCAN. The resulting groups still need human interpretation.

How it works

K-means, for example, picks k centre points, assigns each item to its nearest centre, moves each centre to the average of its items and repeats until stable.
