Diameter

Diameter is the authentication, authorisation and accounting protocol used in 4G, IMS and 5G networks, succeeding RADIUS.

What is Diameter?

It manages access, user sessions, policy and charging. SIP, by contrast, sets up the calls themselves; in IMS the two work side by side.
