Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)

SIP is the signalling protocol used to set up, change and end voice and video calls over IP networks.

What is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)?

SIP handles call setup, ringing and teardown, while the media itself travels separately, usually over RTP. It is used in VoIP, IMS-based mobile and fixed voice, and SIP trunks for businesses.
