Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)

Voice over IP is the carriage of phone calls as data packets over IP networks rather than over dedicated telephone circuits.

What is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)?

VoIP is used for digital landline services, business phone systems and apps. In the UK, landlines are moving to VoIP-based digital voice as the PSTN is switched off. VoIP providers that offer calls to and from ordinary numbers are subject to Ofcom's General Conditions, including access to emergency services.
