DNS Root Servers
The DNS root servers are the top level of the domain name system, pointing resolvers to the servers for each top-level domain such as .uk or .com.
What is DNS Root Servers?
There are 13 named root server identities (A to M), run by 12 organisations and replicated at well over a thousand sites using anycast. A recursive resolver answers a user's query by asking the root, then the top-level domain servers, then the domain's own servers. Each part of the namespace managed by one set of servers is a DNS zone.
