Domain Name System (DNS)
The domain name system is the internet's directory service, translating human-readable names such as dawn.company into the IP addresses computers use.
What is Domain Name System (DNS)?
DNS is a distributed hierarchy of servers. When a device looks up a name, resolvers query the root, top-level domain and authoritative servers to find the address. ISPs usually provide resolvers for their customers.
