Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS)

The modulation and coding scheme is the combination of modulation type and error-correction coding rate used for a transmission.

What is Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS)?

Base stations choose an MCS for each transmission based on the radio conditions the device reports. Higher-order modulation with less coding carries more data but needs a clean signal. Lower-order modulation with more coding is slower but more robust.
