Network Function Virtualisation (NFV)
Network function virtualisation is the practice of running network functions as software on standard servers instead of on dedicated hardware.
What is Network Function Virtualisation (NFV)?
NFV was pioneered by an ETSI industry group from 2012. It lets operators deploy firewalls, routers, mobile core elements and other functions as virtual machines or containers. This reduces dependence on particular hardware and makes capacity easier to scale, but needs orchestration and lifecycle management.
