Virtual Network Function (VNF)
A virtual network function is a network function built as software that runs on general-purpose hardware.

VNFs are the building blocks of NFV. They can be deployed, scaled or moved without changing any hardware. Cloud-native network functions (CNFs) are similar but run in containers.
