Next Generation (NG)
In 3GPP terminology, "NG" (Next Generation) is the prefix used for 5G system elements and interfaces.
What is Next Generation (NG)?
During the 5G work, 3GPP used "NextGen" as a working label. The term lives on in names such as NG-RAN and the NG interface between the radio network and the 5G Core. It is distinct from the older fixed-network term Next Generation Network (NGN).
