Optical Transport Network (OTN)

The optical transport network is an ITU-T standard (G.709) for carrying multiple client signals over optical fibre with built-in management, monitoring and error correction.

What is Optical Transport Network (OTN)?

OTN wraps services such as Ethernet into standard containers and multiplexes them onto high-capacity optical wavelengths. OTN multiplexers aggregate traffic from many lower-speed ports onto higher-speed links. In the NGN cost model source, OTN multiplexers on the ring connecting aggregation and core nodes provide 10 Gbit/s Ethernet ports facing the MPLS edge routers and 100 Gbit/s ports for aggregating traffic onto the ring.
