Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM)

PIM is the family of routing protocols used to deliver IP multicast; PIM-SM (sparse mode) and PIM-SSM (source-specific multicast) are the main types.

What is Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM)?

PIM uses the existing unicast routing table rather than its own topology protocol, hence "protocol independent".
