Remote Biometric Identification
Remote biometric identification is identifying people at a distance, without their active involvement, by comparing their biometric data such as faces with a reference database.
What is Remote Biometric Identification?
The EU AI Act bans real-time remote biometric identification in publicly accessible spaces for law enforcement except for strictly defined purposes such as searching for victims or preventing imminent threats, with prior authorisation. Other remote biometric identification is high-risk.
How it works
Cameras capture faces, which are converted to templates and matched against a watch list.
