Facial Recognition

Facial recognition is technology that identifies or verifies a person by comparing the features of their face in an image with stored facial data.

What is Facial Recognition?

Verification (one-to-one, such as unlocking a phone) differs from identification (one-to-many, such as searching a watch list). Facial data is biometric special-category data under the GDPR, and the EU AI Act bans untargeted scraping of facial images and restricts real-time remote identification by police.

How it works

A model converts a face into a numeric template and measures its similarity to stored templates.
