Serving Gateway (S-GW)

The serving gateway routes users' data between 4G base stations and the PDN gateway, acting as the anchor during handovers.

What is Serving Gateway (S-GW)?

Together with the PGW it forms the user plane of the EPC; in 5G both are replaced by the UPF.
