Evolved Packet Core (EPC)

The Evolved Packet Core is the all-IP core network introduced with 4G LTE.

What is Evolved Packet Core (EPC)?

The EPC handles authentication, mobility, sessions and data routing for LTE networks. Its main elements include the MME, the serving and packet data network gateways, and the HSS. Non-standalone 5G uses the EPC as its core, with 5G radio added alongside LTE.
