5G Core Network (5GC)
The 5G Core is the core network defined for 5G, built from software-based network functions that communicate through service-based interfaces.
What is 5G Core Network (5GC)?
The 5GC replaces the 4G Evolved Packet Core in a standalone 5G network. Rather than fixed boxes joined by point-to-point links, it is made of network functions (such as the AMF, SMF and UPF) that offer services to one another, and it keeps the control plane separate from the user plane. This design suits cloud deployment and makes features such as network slicing possible.
