Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF)
The AMF is the 5G core network function that handles device registration, connection management and mobility.
What is Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF)?
When a device attaches to a 5G network, the AMF is its main point of contact in the core. It manages registration, authentication (together with other functions), reachability and handovers as the device moves, and passes session-related signalling to the Session Management Function. It takes over much of the role of the MME in 4G.
