Sub-Loop Unbundling (SLU)

Sub-loop unbundling gives a competitor access to the copper line at the street cabinet rather than at the exchange.

What is Sub-Loop Unbundling (SLU)?

With SLU, a competitor connects its own fibre network to the copper sub-loop at the Openreach street cabinet. The shared version (SLU SMPF) lets the competitor provide broadband over fibre to the cabinet while voice stays on the copper. SLU take-up has been low because of the cost of equipping each cabinet.
