Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)
Fibre to the cabinet is a broadband design in which fibre runs from the exchange to a street cabinet, and the existing copper line carries the signal the rest of the way to the customer.
What is Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC)?
In FTTC, the DSLAM is moved from the exchange to the street cabinet, closer to the customer. The cabinet is linked back by fibre, and VDSL2 technology runs over the remaining copper. This shortens the copper distance and raises speeds. In the UK, FTTC is sold as "superfast" broadband, typically up to 80 Mbit/s download.
