Symbolic AI
Symbolic AI is the approach to AI that represents knowledge with explicit symbols and rules and reasons with logic, dominant from the 1950s to the 1980s.
What is Symbolic AI?
Also called good old-fashioned AI (GOFAI), it is transparent but brittle and hard to scale, which led to the rise of machine learning.
How it works
Knowledge is written as rules and facts, and an inference engine derives conclusions.
