Tying

Tying is when a seller makes the purchase of one product conditional on the customer also buying another.

What is Tying?

The "tying" product is the one the customer wants; the "tied" product is the one they must also take. Its effects can resemble mixed or pure bundling. A dominant firm that ties products may infringe competition law, as in the European Commission's Microsoft cases.
