AI Watermarking

AI watermarking is embedding a hidden, machine-detectable signal into AI-generated content so it can later be identified as AI-made.

What is AI Watermarking?

The EU AI Act requires providers of generative systems to mark outputs in a machine-readable, detectable way where technically feasible. Watermarks can be weakened by editing, so they are combined with metadata standards.

How it works

The generator subtly biases pixels, audio or word choices in a pattern that a detector with the key can recognise.
