Deepfake

A deepfake is AI-generated or manipulated image, audio or video that realistically shows people, objects, places or events and could falsely appear genuine.

What is Deepfake?

Deepfakes are used for fraud, harassment, non-consensual imagery and disinformation as well as legitimate creative work. The EU AI Act requires deployers to disclose deepfakes, and several countries criminalise sexual deepfakes.

How it works

Generative models are trained on real media to synthesise new faces and voices or swap them into existing footage.
