Generative AI
Generative AI is AI that creates new content, such as text, images, audio, video or code, in response to prompts, based on patterns learned from training data.
What is Generative AI?
Generative AI became mainstream after ChatGPT's release in 2022. It is built on foundation models such as large language models and diffusion models. Risks highlighted by NIST and regulators include hallucination, deepfakes, copyright issues and misuse, and the EU AI Act requires synthetic content to be marked as AI-generated.
How it works
A model trained on huge datasets learns the statistical structure of the content and samples new outputs that match a user's prompt.
