Centralised Unit User Plane (CU-UP)

The CU-UP is the user-plane part of a 5G Centralised Unit, carrying users' data through the PDCP and SDAP layers.

What is Centralised Unit User Plane (CU-UP)?

The CU-UP processes user traffic under the direction of the CU-CP. Because the two are separate, operators can scale user-plane capacity on its own and place it nearer the network edge for low-latency services. "CU-U" is an informal short form of the same term.
