Inter-Exchange Connectivity (IEC)
Inter-exchange connectivity is the wholesale market for high-capacity links between telephone exchanges, which providers use to carry traffic back to their core networks.
What is Inter-Exchange Connectivity (IEC)?
Providers that put equipment in local exchanges need backhaul to reach their own networks. Where there is little competition, Ofcom regulates BT's IEC services, including dark fibre between exchanges.
