Internet Exchange Point (IXP)

An internet exchange point is a shared facility where many networks connect to exchange traffic directly with each other, usually by peering.

What is Internet Exchange Point (IXP)?

IXPs, such as LINX in London, operate a shared layer 2 switching fabric in data centres. Members exchange traffic locally rather than through paid transit, which cuts cost and latency. Resilience comes from multiple sites and switching platforms. Looking glass servers let outsiders view routing information from inside a network, helping diagnose problems.
