Network Function (NF)

A network function is a defined processing element in a network, with specified interfaces and behaviour.

What is Network Function (NF)?

In 3GPP terms, an NF can be built as dedicated hardware (a physical network function), as software on general-purpose servers (a virtual network function) or as cloud-native containers. The 5G Core is described entirely as a set of interacting network functions.
