Optical Cross-Connect Cabinet (OCC)

An optical cross-connect cabinet is an outdoor cabinet in which trunk fibre cables are terminated and flexibly cross-connected to distribution cables, often with splitters housed inside.

What is Optical Cross-Connect Cabinet (OCC)?

The OCC performs all the basic fibre management jobs at a flexibility point: fixing and storing cables, splicing, terminating, keeping spare lengths, distributing, patching and splitting. It provides a secure hand-over point from the passive optical network towards the customer drops, and works with both pre-terminated pigtails and splice-based designs. Cabinets are typically of cold-rolled steel or composite construction and rated around IP55 to IP65 against dust and water. They can be floor-, pole- or wall-mounted and are modular for ease of maintenance.
