Optical Distribution Frame (ODF)
An optical distribution frame is a rack-mounted frame in an exchange or data centre where incoming outdoor fibre cables are terminated and patched to equipment.
What is Optical Distribution Frame (ODF)?
The ODF is the meeting point between the outside fibre plant and the active equipment inside a building. Fibres from outdoor cables are spliced onto connectors in the ODF. From there, short patch cords can connect them flexibly to OLT ports, splitters or other cables. Fibres are kept in separate trays or shelves to keep the frame tidy and make maintenance easier.
