Data Link Layer

The data link layer, layer 2 of the OSI model, moves frames of data between devices on the same local link and detects transmission errors.

What is Data Link Layer?

Layer 2 packages bits into frames, adds hardware (MAC) addresses and checks for errors. Switches and bridges work at this layer. Common protocols include Ethernet, PPP and Wi-Fi's 802.11 MAC; ARP connects layer 2 and layer 3 addressing. Wholesale "layer 2" services, such as Ethernet backhaul or VULA, hand over traffic at this layer.
