Network Layer

The network layer, layer 3 of the OSI model, routes packets between different networks using logical addresses such as IP addresses.

What is Network Layer?

Layer 3 decides the path data takes across interconnected networks. Routers work here, running IP together with ICMP for error and diagnostic messages and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP. Layer 3 VPNs and IP transit are services delivered at this layer.
